Iowa State Recognizes Student-Athletes Of The Month

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State Office of Student-Athlete Development honored four Cyclone student-athletes for their hard work and dedication in the classroom during the month of October. Iowa State's Student-Athletes of the Month are Milo Greder (cross country/track and field), Amelia Grohn (golf), Charlie Kolar (football) and Grace Lazard (volleyball).
Sami Williams was also honored by the Office of Student-Athlete Development as the Community Service Student-Athlete of the Month.
Milo Greder – Sophomore (Cross Country/Track and Field)
Hometown:Â Omaha, Neb.
Major:Â Kinesiology & Health
Milo Greder is having a phenomenal sophomore cross country season for the Cyclones in 2018. Greder, who hails from Omaha, Neb., has come on strong in the postseason, taking home All-Big 12 and All-Midwest Regional honors to help Iowa State claim team titles at both races.
Amelia Grohn – Junior (Golf)
Hometown:Â Coffs Harbour, Australia
Major:Â Criminal Justice
Grohn has enjoyed a strong year, both on the course and in the classroom. An Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree for 2017-18, Grohn played well this fall, ranking No. 2 on the team with a 74.36 stroke average. She also garnered a top-10 finish, tying for eighth at the East And West Match Play.
Charlie Kolar – Redshirt Freshman (Football)
Hometown:Â Norman, Okla.
Major:Â Mechanical Engineering
Kolar has emerged as an outstanding weapon at the tight end position for the Cyclones, particularly in the red zone. The native of Norman, Okla., has seven catches for 92 yards and three touchdowns so far this season. He had season-highs with three catches for 44 yards in ISU's 28-14 win over Baylor on Saturday.
Grace Lazard – Senior (Volleyball)
Hometown:Â London, England
Major:Â Liberal Studies
Senior Grace Lazard has been an imposing figure for the Cyclones at middle blocker in 2018. The native of London, England, is averaging 2.74 kills per set while attacking at a team-best .331 clip. She also has a team-high 98 blocks on the season.
Sami Williams – Junior (Softball)
Hometown:Â Laguna Niguel, Calif.
Major:Â Software Engineering
Sami Williams has excelled on and off the field during her time at Iowa State. An All-Big 12 and All-Region selection, Williams recently led the Cyclones to a 6-2 fall campaign in preparation for the 2019 season. Williams hit a team-leading .388 with 12 home runs a season ago.
Student-athlete development staff members who oversee each sport submit nominations, and the staff votes on the monthly winner.
