OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Iowa State senior women's basketball player Bridget Carleton has been selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.
Carleton holds a 3.30 grade point average while majoring in Kinesiology. She was a member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team the last two seasons.
Carleton has participated in various community service projects during her time at Iowa State. The senior has volunteered at Healthy Streets Ames, assisted with holiday canned food drives, welcomed students at a local school back to class and helped shop for those in need during Christmas. This summer, the Cyclones also visited an orphanage during their foreign tour in Costa Rica.
On the court, Carleton has established herself as one of the best players in the country. She was named an honorable mention All-American by the AP last season. Her performance also did not go unnoticed by league coaches as she was named a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 First-Team the last two seasons. She was most recently named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 30 list, Naismith Trophy and the Cheryl Miller Watch List.
Carleton is one of 30 student-athletes named to the list, which will be narrowed to 10 midway through the regular season. At that point, fan voting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award.
