





AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State women's basketball team (0-0, 0-0 Big 12) officially begins the season tomorrow at noon when it takes on Niagara (0-1) in the first round of the Preseason WNIT. Iowa State is looking for its 24th-straight season-opening win.Â

- The Iowa State women's basketball team will officially begin the 46th season in program history on Friday, Nov. 9 when it takes on Niagara at noon. Iowa State's game against Niagara is the opening game for ISU in the Preseason WNIT. This year's appearance is the first time the Cyclones have competed in the preseason WNIT, which will have three guaranteed games.
- The Cyclones grabbed a pair of exhibition wins against Southwest Baptist and Winona State., extending their streak to 38-straight wins in exhibition action.

Notably, the Cyclones welcome Alexa Middleton, a transfer from Tennessee, Inés Nezerwa, who is a native of Burundi and played for Jacksonville College. Ashley Joens also joins ISU as a freshman. In the offseason, Joens captured a gold medal for USA Basketball's U18 team and was the team captain.
- Iowa State returns three starters from last season in Carleton, Madison Wise and Meredith Burkhall. In all, Iowa State returns 73.8 percent of its scoring, 70.6 percent of its rebounding and 64.8 percent of its assists from the 2017-18 campaign.
- Both Wise and Kristin Scott led the Cyclones in scoring through exhibition action, averaging 13.0 points per game. They were followed by Carleton (10.5) and Nezerwa (10.0) who also averaged double figures.  Scott also led the Cyclones on the boards, nearly averaging a double-double with 9.0 per contest.
- The 2018-19 season marks the 24th in the tenure of Bill Fennelly. Fennelly has led Iowa State to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances. Fennelly boasts a 479-253 record at Iowa State and a 645-306 record in his 29-year career as a head coach. His 645 career wins lists him in the top-15 in the NCAA among active coaches in Division I and in the top-50 of winningest coaches all-time.
