MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State (19-8, 8-6 Big 12) defeated Iowa State (13-13, 4-10 Big 12), 78-66 Saturday afternoon in Manhattan, Kan.
A 21-6 Wildcat run to open the second half proved costly for the Cyclones, as ISU ended its four-game winning streak vs. KSU.
With the game tied at 33-33 at halftime, KSU hit 58.6 percent of its shots in the second period and made 51.7 percent for the game.
Dean Wade led KSU with 22 points and Barry Brown chipped in with 20.
Iowa State was paced by Cameron Lard, who poured in 15 points (7-12 FG). He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Donovan Jackson posted 13 points behind 3-of-9 shooting from 3-point range.
How It Happened
The Cyclones trailed by as many as eight points in the opening period before knotting the score at the break.
Iowa State was down 28-21 with 3:34 remaining in the opening period, but made a nice spurt to close the first half. Lindell Wigginton had seven points in a 12-5 Cyclone run, which was capped off by a deep trey to end the half.
KSU opened the second period on a 21-6 run to take a commanding lead. The Wildcats led by as many as 19 points with 11:45 left in the game. ISU managed to trim the lead to 10 points on multiple occasions, but could never get the deficit below double digits.
Players of Note
Lindell Wigginton scored in double figures for the sixth-straight game with 11 points. Wigginton also hit one trey to give him 56 on the season, the second-best total by an ISU rookie in school history. It was his 20th game with 10 or more points this season.
Cameron Lard made 7-of-12 shots from the field en route to 15 points. He also had a team-high eight rebounds. Lard is shooting 144-of-225 from the field this season at 64.0 percent, which is on pace to be the fourth-best single-season percentage in school history.
