Cyclones Receive Honors At Scholar-Athlete Banquet
04.16.2018 | Athletics, Academic Services
AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Office of Student-Athlete Development (OSAD) hosted its annual Scholar-Athlete Banquet Monday night in Hilton Coliseum.
The Iowa State Athletics Department recorded its highest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in school history at 84 percent in the most recent data released by the NCAA.
The primary reason for this outstanding percentage is the incredible work and determination the Cyclone student-athletes put forth in the classroom.
Over 200 Cyclone student-athletes were honored this evening for their scholastic accomplishments.
The following student-athletes were recognized on the All-Cyclone team for achieving the highest GPA in their respective sports: Spencer Benton (football), Tripp Kinney (men's golf), Emma Ruehle (swimming & diving), Adriana Camber (women's basketball), Zach Timm (men's track & field), Kelsey Paz (gymnastics), M.J. The Norm Boyles Award, given annually to a faculty member who has made a sustained contribution to the welfare of Iowa State student-athletes, was presented to Kipp Van Dyke. Van Dyke is the Assistant Dean/Director of Student Assistance for Iowa State University. An Iowa State graduate, Van Dyke is a huge supporter of Cyclone athletics.

Dr. Day is a Professor of biomedical sciences for the College of Veterinary Medicine and has served as ISU's faculty athletics representative for a decade.
The Iowa State Letterwinners Club recognized Alexis Conaway (volleyball) and Jake Campos (football) as recipients of the All-Around Award. The award is presented to senior student-athletes in recognition of significant athletic contribution, academic excellence, leadership and participating in community service throughout their respective careers at Iowa State.
Ten-time All-American jumper Jhoanmy Luque received the Eye of the Storm Award. The award is distributed to a student-athlete who has persevered through tremendous hardships while succeeding academically and athletically.
Luque left civil-war laden Venezuela for a dream of competing in track & field in the United States. Struggling with the language barrier, Luque accomplishment her goal by being accepted at Iowa State where she has established herself as one of the greatest performers in ISU women's track & field history.
