Texas Tech 5, Iowa State 3
Cyclone miscues in the field proved costly in the early going, as the Red Raiders jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two innings of play on a trio of ISU errors. Texas Tech's first batter of the day, Heaven Burton, reached first on a Cyclone fielding error. TTU slugger Jessica Hartwell then stepped to the plate and notched a two-run home run to put Iowa State in a 2-0 hole early.
Kaylee Bosworth put ISU on the board with a solo home run of her own in the top of the second. The shot to left center field was Bosworth's sixth homer of the season, tied for second on the team.
A two-out rally saw the Red Raiders respond with two more runs in the home half of the second. Taylor Satchell reached on Iowa State's second error of the day, and would score on an RBI double by Kaylee Strickland. Later in the inning, Strickland stole third and was able to score on a throwing error, extending the lead to 4-1.
Logan Schaben continued her hot streak at the plate with another solo dinger for the Cyclones in the top of the fourth, cutting the TTU lead to 4-2. Schaben's shot to right field was her fifth of the season, and third in the last four games.
Pitcher Savannah Sanders and the Cyclone defense held the Red Raiders in check with three consecutive scoreless frames until the bottom of the sixth. Texas Tech added to its lead with a two-out RBI single by Kelcy Leach.
Iowa State looked to rally in the top of the seventh, cutting into the TTU lead with an RBI single by Taylor Nearad that scored Kirsten Caudle. However, that was final run of the game, as TTU held on for a 5-3 win. Sanders went all 6.0 innings, giving up just two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
