AMES, Iowa – Iowa State sophomore Sami Williams was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region Third Team today, the organization announced.
Williams was tremendous for the Cyclones during her sophomore campaign, leading the team with a .388 batting average, 14 doubles, 12 home runs and 27 RBIs. Williams' 12 home runs are the third-most ever in a single season in program history, leading the way as the 2018 Cyclones broke the single season school record with 44 dingers on year.
The native of Laguna Niguel, Calif., started all 56 games at shortstop in 2018.
The NFCA awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division I All-American squads.
The 2018 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 4 p.m. CT on Wednesday, May 30, via NFCA.org.
