MEXICO CITY, Mexico - The USA Basketball Women's U18 National Team and Iowa State freshman Ashley Joens are set to begin competition in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship on Wednesday, Aug. 1. Team USA will compete in Group A against Argentina, Chile and Puerto Rico in the group phase of the championship. Group B includes Canada, Colombia, El Salvador and Mexico.
The team's first game will be against Argentina at 6:30 p.m. in Mexico City. The U18 team will then square off against Chile on Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. before closing out the group phase against Puerto Rico at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 3. After the group phases, all the teams will be reseeded for the quarterfinals on Aug. 5. The semifinals will begin on Aug. 6, followed by the championship game on Aug. 7.
The USA U18 team is seeking its ninth-straight Gold medal, while also vying for a qualifying berth into next year's FIBA U19 World Cup, which is awarded to the tournament's top-four teams.
