Joens Blogs After Gold Medal Win With USA Basketball

Hey Cyclone Nation!

I'm back and it's been another week and a half in Mexico City, Mexico competing against Argentina, Chile, and Puerto Rico in the group rounds. Following the group rounds, we started medal-round games in which we were seeded No. 1 and faced El Salvador first. We then went on to beat Columbia to advance to the championship game to play for a Gold medal.

We ended up playing Canada in the championship game where we won! For the award ceremony we got our gold medals and stood up on the podium and they played our national anthem. Then the awarded as our trophy and since I was the captain I got to go receive it for the team. That was all a great experience and a LOT of fun but we didn't just play basketball

On August 5th in between the group round games and the medal round games, we had a day off, so we did some touring. We went to the pyramids and climbed to the top which was a beautiful view and so unbelievable that they built those with their bare hands. It was a great experience and so much fun, but I'm happy to be back now with my Iowa State Family!! Next Stop Costa Rica!!
