TUCSON, Ariz. - The Iowa State men's golf team shot a final-round 270 to move up into a tie for fourth place in the final standings at the Arizona Intercollegiate. ISU's 14-under 270 was the second-lowest score of the final round and it ties for the lowest 18-hole team tally in school history.
All five Cyclones were under par in the final 18 holes, throwing out a 1-under 70.
The Cyclones shot a three-round 832 total to open up their spring season, tying for the second-lowest 54-hole score in the history of the program.
Arizona State won the team title at 815.
Junior Tripp Kinney had a solid tournament. He posted rounds of 69-71-65 to tie for eighth with a three-round 205 total. Kinney capped off the tournament with his seventh sub-70 round of the season by carding five birdies and an eagle in his 6-under 65, establishing a new career-low 18-hole round.
Kinney finished strong, posting an eagle on his final hole on the par-5 eighth hole to record the lowest 54-hole score (205) and the fourth top-10 finish of his career.
"I am really excited how I got started off this spring," Kinney said. "To be able to have a solid start was really important. My wedges were good today and so was my putting, and it was a good step in the right direction for our team. I think this will put us in the right direction."
Junior Sam Vincent tied for 13th at 207. Vincent got on a roll, going 8-under in the last 36 holes, including a final-round 65. Vincent had six birdies and just one bogey on his card today, including a birdie on the final hole to aid the Cyclones down the stretch while recording the lowest 54-hole score of his career (207).
