10.16.2019 | Athletics
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State student-athletes are maintaining excellence in the classroom according to Graduation Success Rates (GSR) and Federal Graduation Rates (FGR) data released Wednesday by the NCAA.
The data is based upon the 2012 cohort (freshmen who entered ISU on aid in 2012).
Iowa State eclipsed its best-ever GSR total from a year ago with a record-setting mark of 91%, tying for first in the Big 12 Conference. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the institution's GSR improved.
"This data confirms the hard work and dedication that our student-athletes have put forward in regards to their academic pursuits," Senior Associate Athletics Director Dr. Charles Small said. "We are thrilled to establish some new record highs, rank highly among our peers and demonstrate significant improvement in several sports and key groups. Our student-athletes and coaches and the academic support teams all share in these achievements."
Seven sports had unblemished GSRs of 100% this year: men's basketball, men's golf, women's golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball and volleyball. ISU's overall GSR for its women's sports was No. 1 in the league and the GSR for Cyclone men's sports was second-best in the Big 12.
Another measure of ISU's academic success is a 96% GSR rate for student-athletes who exhausted their eligibility.
