AMES, Iowa - Iowa State will be looking to continue its winning run on Sunday afternoon in Waco against No. 3 Baylor. First serve between the Cyclones and Bears will be at 4 p.m. from the Ferrell Center. Sunday's match will be televised on ESPNU.
ISU, winners of its last two matches, gave the then-No. 1 Bears a good run in Ames back on Oct. 9, earning set points in two of the three sets, but being unable to get the set win in either.Â
Sunday afternoon's match-up will be televised on ESPNU, with Sam Gore and Jennifer Hoffman on the call. The match will also be streamed via WatchESPN, here. Live stats will be provided by Baylor, here.
Iowa State's first trip to Texas this week resulted in a 3-0 win for the Cyclones at TCU. The Cyclone defense led the way, recording 11.0 total blocks to restrict the Horned Frogs to .108 hitting. Candelaria Herrera led that effort with nine blocks (one solo, eight assists) while Piper Mauck had five blocks (one solo, four assists). In attack, Eleanor Holthaus led the way with 11 kills, while Annie Hatch notched 10.
Baylor comes into Sunday's match at 18-1 and 8-1 in league play. The Bears have fallen from their perch as the No. 1 team in the country after having fallen to now-No. 1 Texas in three sets in Austin on Oct. 23. However, the Bears have yet to lose at home this season, with wins over Tennessee, Missouri, Hawaii and Oklahoma among their home victories. Baylor has dropped just two sets inside the Ferrell Center all season.
The Bears won the first meeting of the season against ISU in Ames 3-0 on Oct. 9. Iowa State got to set point first in the first and third sets, but were unable to convert either set over. At the time, Iowa State had held Baylor to its lowest-hitting percentage of the season at .214. Annie Hatch led the attack that night with 10 kills.
Iowa State and Baylor will be playing for the 50th time on Sunday, with the Bears leading the all-time series 25-24. Baylor has won the last five meetings in the series. The Cyclones' last win over Baylor did come in Waco, with ISU claiming a 3-2 win in 2016 at the Ferrell Center.
