Student-Athletes Of The Month Honored

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State Office of Student-Athlete Development announced that three Cyclone student-athletes have been honored for their hard work and dedication in the classroom during the month of January. Iowa State's Student-Athletes of the Month are Evan Hundley (swimming & diving), Natalia Ros Vaquer (gymnastics), and Chase Straw (wrestling).
Evan Hundley – Senior (Swimming & Diving)
Hometown:Â Eldridge, Iowa
Major:Â Industrial Engineering
Evan Hundley is serving as a captain during her senior season with Iowa State swimming and diving. The senior is a top-five sprint freestyler and backstroker this season, and has served in a key role with multiple top-three finishes. She was selected to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team with distinction for earning a 4.0 GPA.
Natalia Ros Vaquer – Sophomore (Gymnastics)
Hometown: Calvia, Majorca, Spain
Major:Â Hospitality Management
Natalie Ros Vaquer has competed in Iowa State's vault, uneven bars and floor exercise lineup so far in 2019. The sophomore put up a season-best score of 9.65 on the vault on Jan. 4 at the Cancun Classic against West Virginia, Michigan and Rutgers. She was also a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in Fall 2018.
Chase Straw – Redshirt Junior (Wrestling)
Hometown:Â Winthrop, Iowa
Major:Â Industrial Design
Chase Straw has been great for Kevin Dresser's wrestling squad in the second half of the season. He has manned the 157-pound spot, winning seven out of his last nine dual matches. He finished eighth at the 2019 Southern Scuffle and was named First Team Academic All-Big 12.
Student-athlete development staff members who oversee each sport submit nominations, and the staff votes on the monthly winner.
