KEY TO THE MATCH
The Cyclones have two more opportunities to build upon their 4-2 home record this season. Iowa State will have to do two things to see success this weekend: get off to a strong start in doubles play and win the big points.
"I thought we played the big points pretty poorly last weekend," head coach Boomer Saia said. "I thought we were getting to the point where we were getting the big opportunities and big points to play, but we didn't have our best tennis in those moments."
This week, Saia challenged his players to save their best tennis for last and to seize those opportunities.
"I'm looking for, in singles and doubles, can we have players step up in those moments and be relaxed and save their best tennis for last when it counts the most," Saia said.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Freshman Ekaterina Grib has amassed a team-high 18 singles wins this season and has won two of her last three.
The Minsk, Belarus native has seen success this year in the upper half of the singles lineup. Grib has tallied a 6-4 record for the Cyclones in the No. 3 singles position.
SENIOR DAY
Iowa State will honor its three seniors Sunday against the Lady Bears.
"[The seniors] helped move this program forward," head coach Boomer Saia said. "They've taken some initiative and a positive mindset that has really been infectious to some of our younger players."
Annabella Bonadonna and Regina Espindola are two of the best to ever don the Cardinal and Gold. The pair have accounted for 132 singles wins throughout their careers and both sit inside the top ten on Iowa State's overall career singles win list. Additionally, both seniors find themselves in the top six on the overall career wins list.
Entering the weekend, the seniors have led the Cyclones to 43 dual wins for the Cyclones. This season, the pair led Iowa State to their first win over Nebraska since 1995.
ISU's other senior, Liera Bender, has been a positive contributor to the Cyclones despite injuries hampering her career.
"This senior class has been the start of the tidal wave," Saia said. "They've started that momentum that we're going to carry into future years."
