Iowa State Announces Student-Athletes Of The Semester

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State Office of Student-Athlete Development announced that four Cyclone student-athletes have been honored for their hard work and dedication in the classroom during the 2019 spring semester. Iowa State's Student-Athletes of the Semester are Brooke Andersen (volleyball), Ines Nezerwa (basketball), Sean Shaw (football) and Dylan Soehner (football).
Brooke Andersen – Sophomore (Volleyball)
Hometown:Â Waukesha, Wis.
Major:Â Supply Chain Management
Brooke Andersen is coming off an excellent freshman campaign for the Iowa State volleyball team. The native of Waukesha, Wis., appeared in 16 matches at the outside hitter position, recording 36 kills, including a season-high seven vs. Gonzaga on Aug. 31. Andersen also collected a season-best 17 digs vs. Gonzaga.
Ines Nezerwa – Senior (Basketball)
Hometown:Â Bujumbura, Burundi
Major:Â Liberal Studies
Ines Nezerwa was a valuable addition to Bill Fennelly's 2018-19 Cyclone women's basketball program. In her first season on campus, Nezerwa played in 33 games while averaging 4.6 points and 3.2 rebounds, providing valuable depth in the post. She tallied six points and a career-high 14 rebounds vs. New Mexico State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Sean Shaw Jr. – Redshirt Freshman (Football)
Hometown:Â Jones, Okla.
Major:Â Agricultural Studies
Sean Shaw Jr. redshirted for the Cyclones in 2018. The Jones, Okla., native was one of the nation's top-100 receivers coming out of high school and enters his first season of eligibility looking to make an impact in Iowa State's passing attack.
Dylan Soehner – Redshirt Junior (Football)
Hometown:Â Priarie Grove, Ark.
Major:Â Finance
Dylan Soehner will be entering his redshirt junior season next year. He played in all 13 games for the Cyclones in 2018, earning First-Team Academic All-Big 12 honors and was named the team's Jim Doran Outstanding Special Teams Player.
Student-athlete development staff members who oversee each sport submit nominations, and the staff votes on the monthly winner.
