AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's Hannah Carter and Sami Williams have been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 6 Softball Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Academic All-District teams divide student-athletes into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Carter, a junior from Altoona, Iowa, maintained a 4.0 GPA in accounting, and was also an Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection. She was one of just six student-athletes in the conference to be nominated with a 4.0, and is one of five such honorees on the All-District 6 team. Carter has started 39 games in the outfield for the Cyclones, and has tallied 19 hits, 13 runs and is No. 3 on the team with 12 walks. The speedster has also stolen five bases on six attempts.
Williams achieved a 3.97 GPA in software engineering, and joined Carter on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. The native of Laguna Niguel, Calif. also earned Google Cloud Academic All-America honors following her sophomore campaign. On the field, Williams is hitting .386 and has tied the single-season program record with 14 home runs on the year. She is one of just three players in the country with at least a .385 batting average, 18 doubles and 14 home runs on the year, and the only player from a Power 5 conference with such numbers.
First and second-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in June. For more information about CoSIDA's Google Cloud Academic All-District and Academic All-America Teams program, visit AcademicAllAmerica.com or the Academic All-America® homepage on CoSIDA.com.
