AMES, Iowa – Amber Giese has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development, the Iowa State Athletics Department announced today.
Giese has played a huge role in the success of the Office of Student-Athlete at Iowa State since she joined the staff in 2006. She took over office initiatives as the director in the fall of 2017.
"We are extremely proud of our student-athletes' accomplishments in the classroom," Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Services Dr. Charles Small said. "Amber's leadership with the Office of Student-Athlete Development has helped provide resources and support for student-athletes to achieve their personal best academically. I am enthusiastic to see Amber partner with our coaches and faculty to continue to provide transformative experiences for our student-athletes to prepare for success during and after their time at Iowa State University."
Iowa State student-athletes are achieving at an all-time rate behind the work of Giese and her staff. The overall GPA by student-athletes was higher than the ISU student body again in 2018-19, an annual goal the staff aims to meet.
Iowa State tallied a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 88 percent in 2018-19, the highest in school history and second-best in the Big 12.
Giese, who was the Director of Student-Athlete Academic Support at St. Louis from 2003-06 prior to her tenure at ISU, earned her bachelor's degree from Indiana State in 2001 and her master's from Radford in 2003.
