AMES, Iowa – Iowa State set new marks for the highest rankings in both singles and doubles in program history. With the new set of Oracle ITA DI Rankings coming out today, freshman Thasaporn Naklo is ranked No. 72 individually and the first-year duo of Naklo and Christin Hsieh are ranked No. 51 in doubles.
No. 72 Singles, Thasaporn Naklo
Naklo is the third player and the first freshman to be ranked in Cyclone history. Debuting at No. 72, she narrowly beat out current teammate Maty Cancini's highest rank of No. 74 from last season. This year, Naklo is 5-0 in duals play, including winning her last four matches in straight sets, and 4-3 against ranked opponents. After dominating her last opponent, Naklo is currently riding a nine-set winning streak that she will look to continue in Tuscaloosa this weekend.
No. 51 Doubles, Thasaporn Naklo/Christin Hsieh
The freshman pairing of Naklo and Hsieh has proven to be fruitful, becoming Iowa State's first ranked doubles pair in school history. The duo is 9-2 on the full season and 7-1 since the turn of the calendar, including a win over No. 22 pairing of Jaeda Daniel and Adriana Reami from NC State at the Orlando Invitational. The first-year partners have a chance to add to their resume this weekend against Alabama, potentially facing the No. 51 pairing of Moka Ito and Isabella Harvison.
