Iowa State To Tangle With Oklahoma

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State women's basketball team (13-8, 5-5, Big 12) continues its two-game home stand in Hilton Coliseum as it squares off with Oklahoma (12-10, 5-5 Big 12) on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. on Cyclones.tv. The Cyclones trail the all-time series 40-26, but lead OU 15-13 in Hilton Coliseum. Iowa State is looking to avoid the sweep, having lost at OU, 81-72.

As a reminder, Hilton Coliseum has instituted a Clear Bag Policy for athletic events. The policy will enhance security while improving efficiency at the entry gates.

Sophomore Ashley Joens, is off to a historic start to her sophomore season, and is currently averaging a double-double with 21.5 points and 10.3 rebounds and has claimed a league-high four Big 12 weekly honors. Joens also ranks seventh in the league in field-goal percentage, 47.5 percent. She has the highest field-goal percentage of any Big 12 guard.
Joens is currently first in the Big 12 in scoring and fourth in the nation, averaging 21.4 points per game, while her 10.1 rebounds ranks sixth in the Big 12 and 17th nationally. Joens remains the only player in the NCAA averaging over 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds. Joens is also the only player in the Big 12 ranking in the top-6 in points and rebounds for the season.
Joens also has a knack for getting to the free-throw line, as she leads the nation with 165 fouls drawn. As a result, she ranks first nationally in free throws made (138), and second-nationally in free throws attempted (170).
Junior Kristin Scott picked up right where she left off last season, earning a spot on the Preseason All-Big 12 team. Scott is currently second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.6 points. Scott is also second in rebounding, averaging 7.0 boards per game. Scott has kicked things up a notch since the start of Big 12 play averaging 16.6 points and shot 53.2 percent from the field in the first nine games of Big 12 action.
Joens and Scott have been one of the best one-two punches in the Big 12. Joens ranks fourth in conference play with18.4 points, with Scott sixth with 16.6 points per game. The duo are also two of the most efficient in league play, with Scott connecting on 53.2 percent of her shots and Joens 50.0 percent. Both rank second and third.
Junior Rae Johnson is averaging 4.6 assists per game in Big 12 play, which ranks fourth in the league. She leads the Cyclones with 91 assists on the year.
Since 1999-00, only seven Division I guards or guard/forwards have averaged over 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and shot 47.0 percent from the floor. Joens is currently on pace to do so. She joins Delaware's Elena Delle Donne and former Big 12 Player of the Year Brittney Martin as two of the women's basketball players on the list.
The 2019-20 season marks the 25th in the tenure of Bill Fennelly. Fennelly has led Iowa State to 18 NCAA Tournament appearances. Fennelly boasts a 518-270 record at Iowa State and a 684-323 record in his 32-year career as a head coach. His 684 career wins lists him in the top-15 in the NCAA among active coaches in Division I and in the top-50 winningest coaches all-time.

The Iowa State women's basketball earned their first sweep of the season on Wednesday when they took on Oklahoma State. The Cyclones led by as much as 13, and were able to hold off a late rally by the Cowgirls.
Iowa State tallied 11 3-pointers, shooting 45.8 percent from deep. The Cyclones dominated the boards, outrebounding OSU 46-39, with Ashley Joens (14) and Kristin Scott (13) hauling in double-figure rebounds.
The Cyclones placed three in double figures with Ashley Joens leading the way with 23 points, followed by Kristin Scott (18) and Maggie Espenmiller-McGraw (18).
