AMES, Iowa - The Big 12 Conference announced its revised 2020 soccer schedule Tuesday. The Cyclones will play a nine-match, conference-only schedule featuring four home games, with the season-opener set for Sep. 11. Head coach Matt Fannon's debut season at the program's helm will see the Cyclones play six matches against 2019 NCAA Championship qualifying teams.
"More than anything, we're just excited to compete," Fannon said. "Playing just once a week will give us the opportunity to work a little harder on our process, rather than needing to stick to our periodization and match preparation as we would in a usual Thursday-Sunday schedule. Our women are working incredibly hard and we are all desperate to improve every day, so it is a really positive atmosphere that we hope can continue throughout our matches this season."
The Cyclones will officially open their 2020 campaign vs. West Virginia on Sep. 11 at the Cyclone Sports Complex. The Cyclones will then hit the road for the first time in 2020 to battle defending Big 12 Champion Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. on Sep. 18. The Cyclones return home the following week to face Baylor on Sep. 25 to close out the month.
Up next for Iowa State is back-to-back road trips, starting in Fort Worth, Texas, where the Cyclones will take on TCU on Oct. 2. ISU will be in Norman, Okla., one week later on Oct. 9 to face the Sooners at John Crain Field. The Cyclones are back in Ames on Oct. 16 for a match vs. Texas, before once again heading south to face Texas Tech in Lubbock on Oct. 23.
The home finale is set for Oct. 30 vs. Kansas State at the Cyclone Sports Complex. The regular season finale is slated for Nov. 6 at Kansas. To see Iowa State's full 2020 soccer schedule, click here.
Make-up contests could be played after Nov. 6. Teams are not permitted to play any non-conference opponents this fall.
