AMES, Iowa – No. 18 Iowa State (1-1, 1-1 Big 12) had a historic afternoon Sunday in the Mile High City, defeating the No. 5 Denver Pioneers 196.050-195.850. The win was the Cyclones' first over a top-five opponent since 2006, the highest ranked win in head coach Jay Ronayne's tenure and ISU's first over Denver since 2013.
The Cyclones were led by a strong performance by junior Addy De Jesus. De Jesus posted a perfect 10.000 on vault, Iowa State's first since 2004, and the first perfect score during Ronayne's time at Iowa State. De Jesus also becomes the first gymnast in the NCAA this season to notch a perfect score on the vault, and only the third 10.000 across all events.
"This was a team win," head coach Jay Ronayne said. "I'm so happy with the win and so proud of this team. We've had some changes in the lineup which has been a major difference. The rest of the team was ready to step in and take on the job so that's what I'm really proud of."
Vault
Iowa State continued its dominant start to the season on vault, posting a total score of 49.175. De Jesus picked up the event win and new career high with her perfect 10.000. This is the fourth perfect 10.000 in Iowa State history, and the third on vault. Kaia Parker also picked up a career high 9.825, closely followed by Phoebe Turner with a 9.800. Makayla Maxwell and Sophia Steinmeyer rounded out the scoring with matching scores of 9.775.

"It can't be overstated how amazing it is that someone can do something that is considered perfect. The team went crazy, everyone screaming and jumping up and down. All of the sudden the place just erupted with a gigantic roar. We're overjoyed about that."
Floor Exercise
Iowa State notched a score of out 49.025 on the floor. De Jesus continued her strong performances, tying her career best with a score of 9.900. Maddie Diab and Kelsey Boychuk both earned scores of 9.825, with this being Boychuk's floor debut. Steinmeyer closely followed with a score of 9.750. Turner also had a solid score in her floor debut, earning a 9.725.
Balance Beam
The Cyclones rounded out the meet with a total score 49.000 on the beam. Iowa State was led once again by De Jesus with a score of 9.850, tying her career high. Meixi Semple closely followed with a 9.825. Kelsey Boychuk and Kaia Parker both set new career highs, posting scores of 9.800 and 9.775, respectively. Rounding out the scoring was Sophia Steinmeyer, who notched a 9.750.
Uneven Bars
The Cyclones totaled a 48.850 on bars, led by Makayla Maxwell who posted a career best 9.850. Loganne Basuel earned an impressive 9.800 in her Iowa State debut. Closely following were De Jesus and Madelyn Langkamp, posting a 9.775 and 9.750, respectively. Rounding out the scores was Laura Cooke with a 9.675.
All-Around
Addy De Jesus was the lone all-arounder, posting a 39.525 to set a new career high and pick up the event win. She is tied for 10th best all-around score in the country so far this season.
