AMES, Iowa – Oklahoma scored with less than two minutes to play in regulation Sunday, as the Sooners beat Iowa State 1-0 in the home finale at the Cyclone Soccer Complex.
The loss drops Iowa State to 4-11 overall and 1-6 in Big 12 play, while Oklahoma improves to 7-10-1 overall and 3-5 in league play. Iowa State returns to action on Thursday, as the Cyclones travel to Kansas State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. Both the Wildcats and Cyclones are fighting for the final spot in the Big 12 Championship going into the final day of the regular season on Thursday.
"Today hurts a lot, frankly, but I saw lots and lots of good things that we know we got to build on and we'll get there," Iowa State Head Coach Matt Fannon said. "I think for the most part we dealt with everything that they threw into the box. That goal came from a really awkward dipping ball that bounced off a post and landed on a kids foot. Those things happen in games."
In the 89th minute, Erika Yost sent the ball into the box, where Bri Amos put it in for her fifth goal of the season. It was the only shot on goal for Amos in the match.
Claudia Najera and Kenady Adams led the Cyclones with two shots apiece, with each having a shot on goal as well. Jordan Silkowitz dropped to 3-9 in the net on the year, as she tied a career-high with 11 saves. McKenna Schultz moved into a tie for the top spot in school history by playing in her 80th career match. Adams made her 40th career appearance for the Cyclones, while it was the 60th career appearance for Tavin Hays.
The Sooners had a 19-8 advantage in shots, including 12-2 in shots on goal.
