SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Thasaporn Naklo earned a pair of wins to advance to the consolation semifinals on Friday at the ITA Fall National Championships.
Naklo opened the day with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 win against Virginia's Elaine Chervinsky. In her second match of the day, Naklo worked her way into the consolation semifinals with a 6-3, 6-4 win over the tournament's seventh-seeded player, Snow Han of Southern California.
Naklo will face No. 4 seed Lisa Zaar of Pepperdine Saturday at 1 p.m.
In doubles action, Sofia Cabezas and Miska Kadleckova pushed the tournament's No. 6 seed to the bring before falling. Cabezas and Kadleckova won the first set, 6-4, but the Texas pairing of Kylie Collins and Charlotte Chavitipon rallied to win the second set, 6-0, and then took the match tiebreak, 10-6. The loss eliminates the Cyclone duo from the tournament.
Naklo and Christin Hsieh stayed alive in the doubles consolation bracket with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win against Northwestern's Hannah McColgan and Sydney Pratt. The Cyclone pair will face Michigan State's Mary Lewis and Maja Pietrowicz on Saturday at 3 p.m.
