LOS ANGELES – Iowa State women's basketball's Ashley Joens was named to the John R. Wooden Award, presented by Wendy's Late Season Top 20 Watch List, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Monday on ESPNU.
Joens has turned heads this season, averaging 24.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game for the Cyclones. The Iowa City, Iowa native ranks seventh nationally in points per game and is one of just two players in the nation who are averaging over 24.0 points and 8.0 rebounds.
Recently, Joens was named National Player of the Week by the USBWA, and the Naismith Trophy after the Cyclones defeated Oklahoma State and topped Baylor in Waco for the first time since 1997.
The players on the Late season Top 20 list are considered strong candidates for the 2021 John R. Wooden Award Women's Player of the Year presented by Wendy's. Players not chosen to the late season list are still eligible for the Wooden Award™ National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award.
Iowa State returns to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. to take on No. 21 West Virginia on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
