KEY STORYLINES
- Iowa State is back in action after a nearly four-month layoff. In their last time out, the Cyclones tied No. 12 Kansas in a 1-1 thriller. Courtney Powell scored a goal in the 90th minute to force overtime off an assist from Kenady Adams.
-It's been 114 days since Iowa State's last match. Despite the extended layoff, games played in spring 2021 will count toward the Cyclones' official 2020-21 record.
- GK Jordan Silkowitz ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 in saves (46) and in saves per game (5.11). Her 46 saves also rank T-No. 10 nationally (5th among players from Power 5 conferences).
- Midfielder Mira Emma enters Friday's match ranked T-No. 4 in the Big 12 in assists this season with two. Both of Emma's assists this season have been on game-winning goals.
- Iowa State has faced four opponents this season ranked in the top 15 nationally by the United Soccer Coaches poll. It is the first time in school history that Iowa State has faced four top-15 opponents in the same season.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz tied a career high with eight saves in Iowa State's 1-0 loss at Texas Tech. Her eight saves are tied for the most made in a single game by a Big 12 player this season. She is the only player in the conference with multiple eight-save performances.
- The Cyclones gained a pair of newcomers since the fall season in freshmen Elin Persson (midfielder) and Sydney Thomas (defender). Persson, a native of Bjärred, Sweden, is the program's first international player since 2003 (Arlene Samuel).
- Silkowitz, Taylor Bee and McKenna Schultz are the lone Cyclones to have played all 844 available minutes so far this season. That trio has been key to Iowa State's defensive success.
- Three Cyclone newcomers have seen game action so far this year. Silkowitz, a sophomore, has played all 844 minutes in goal, while Olivia Edwards and Meghan Carl are the lone freshman to see time on the pitch thus far. Edwards has started all nine matches, while Carl has made one start with seven appearances.
-The spring season opens across the Big 12 this weekend with four matches. Baylor will host Texas A&M, which ranked No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 15 this past fall. Teams will continue non-conference action through April 17.
