AMES, Iowa – The No. 22 Iowa State gymnastics team (10-5, 4-4 Big 12) placed third in the Big 12 Championships in Morgantown, West Virginia with a season-high score of 197.050. No. 9 Denver finished first with a 197.350, No. 1 Oklahoma finished second with a 197.125, and West Virginia placed fourth with a 195.725.
The Cyclones finished the day with an overall team score that is tied for seventh in Iowa State history and is the first score above 197 in head coach Jay Ronayne's tenure.
Once again, Addy De Jesus dazzled as she tied the school record for all-around for the second meet in a row at 39.600. De Jesus also tied to win the Big 12 floor title with Denver's Lynnzee Brown. In the year end awards, De Jesus was awarded the title of Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. She is the eighth Cyclone to win this award, and the first since 2011 when Michelle Shealy claimed the honor. This is also Iowa State's first Big 12 postseason award since 2014 when Camille Santerre-Gervais won Event Specialist of the Year.
"They're a championship team," head coach Jay Ronayne said. "The score was so close today, and we're in it because the team are trusting their training. The execution of the routines is getting so much better here at the end of the season. To get it done in a situation that could be pretty tense was great. I'm very pleased with the way they are performing."
