AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team, on the heels of its historic season, was ranked No. 2 in the end of season rankings for the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Cyclones finished the season 14-8 and with wins over five nationally ranked teams on its way to the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. In the tournament, Iowa State beat South Carolina before falling to North Carolina State in the round of 32.
Iowa State finished the season ranked No. 34 nationally.
Individually, Thasaporn Naklo and Miska Kadleckova were ranked No. 5 and No. 12 in the Central Region, respectively.
Naklo finished the season 12-7 in singles action and was ranked No. 57 nationally in the final season polls following her first complete season in Ames. The Bangkok, Thailand native capped her season with an outstanding NCAA Tournament, defeating a pair of ranked opponents, including NC State's Anna Rogers, who was ranked No. 2 in the Carolina Region.
Kadleckova went 16-3 in singles play, posting arguably the best freshman season in Iowa State tennis history. The Banska Bystrica, Slovakia native won the first 10 matches of her career and ended the season going 8-1 at No. 3 singles and 8-2 at No. 4 singles. Like Naklo, Kadleckova went 2-0 at the NCAA Tournament and earned her first career ranked victory by defeating Emma Shelton of South Carolina.
As a pair, Naklo and Kadleckova were 11-6 while playing together at No. 1 doubles. They were ranked No. 9 in the region as a doubles team.
