AMES, Iowa – For the fourth-straight year, Iowa State senior Sami Williams has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Softball Team. A first team selection, Williams is the first Iowa State student-athlete to earn the honor four times.
Williams recently finished one of the greatest careers on the diamond in Iowa State and Big 12 history. During her final season as a Cyclone, she set Iowa State single-season records for home runs (21) and batting average (.446), while driving in 54 runs with a .902 slugging percentage. She finished her career as the all-time leader in hits (329), doubles (79), home runs (67), RBI (180), runs scored (212), at-bats (833) and games played (253) at Iowa State. Williams is also the Big 12's all-time leader in career hits, doubles and total bases (627). Her 79 career doubles are tied for third-most in NCAA Division I softball history. Her 627 total bases are fourth-most in NCAA history.
Off the field, Williams was a finalist for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award and was one of five student-athletes nationally to be named a Senior CLASS Award Softball First Team All-American. Earlier this summer, Williams was named Iowa State's Female Athlete of the Year and was selected as the Big 12 Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She became Iowa State's first NFCA First Team All-American in 2021.
Williams, who just completed her master's degree in information systems and business analytics with a 3.93 GPA, is the eighth Iowa State student-athlete to earn first team honors multiple times in a career and the first for the Iowa State softball program.
