Key Storylines
- The Cyclones posted a 194.350 in the season-opener last Friday against Nebraska, highlighted by a 49.000 on floor - the No. 11 team score in the nation on the event after opening weekend.
- Iowa State's two highest individual scores of Friday's meet came on floor. Both Laura Cooke and Maddie Diab posted marks of 9.900 on the event. Cooke's score was a career high.
- ISU also saw a strong performance from Maya Ford in her collegiate debut, who earned a 9.800 on her first-ever bars routine.
- Seven newcomers, all freshmen, have joined the team this season – Josie Bergstrom, Maddie Crosse, Marina Gonzalez, Hannah Loyim, Emma Ricks, Sydney Saturnino and Rachel Wilke.
- Loyim competed in three events for the Cyclones in her debut, tied for the most by a Cyclone gymnast in the opener. Loyim posted 9.70 on vault and bars and a 9.725 on beam.
- Makayla Maxwell led the Cyclones on vault with a 9.775 against Nebraska. Last season, Maxwell just missed out on All-America honors, finishing T-21 nationally on vault. Maxwell had a run of three-straight 9.925s in March.
- There are two Olympians on the roster this season in Ariana Orrego (Peru) and Marina Gonzalez (Spain). Orrego competed at both the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics while Gonzalez competed in Tokyo, finishing 32nd on floor and 12th in the team standings.Â
- This will mark the second-ever meeting between Iowa State and Temple. The Cyclones were victorious, 195.300-189.750 in the first meeting back in 2015.
