AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State tennis team opens its spring schedule this weekend with two home matches in Urbandale. The Cyclones will play against both Illinois State and North Dakota on Saturday to kick off the season.
THE SCHEDULE
Saturday, Jan. 22 - 11:00 a.m.
Illinois State (0-0) vs. Iowa State (0-0)
Saturday, Jan. 22 - 4:00 p.m.
North Dakota (0-0) vs. Iowa State (0-0)
Matches will be played at Life Time Fitness in Urbandale, Iowa.
THE SERIES
This will be the 13th all-time meeting between Illinois State and Iowa State. Their last matchup was in 2018 when the Cyclones fell to the Redbirds, 4-1 on the road. The Cyclones currently lead the series 8-4, including a 2-1 record at home.
North Dakota and Iowa State will be squaring off for the sixth time in series history on Saturday. Iowa State has won all five previous matches, the latest coming last season when the Cyclones dominated the Fighting Hawks at home, winning 7-0.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cyclones finished the fall season on a history-making note. Iowa State made its first appearance at the ITA Fall National Championships, sending four student-athletes to compete. The No. 27 player in the country, Thasaporn Naklo, earned her spot by becoming the first Cyclone ever to win an ITA event at the ITA Central Regional Championships.
CYCLONE TENNIS QUICK HIT
Iowa State enters the spring riding a 17-match home winning streak that dates back to the 2018-19 season. Their last loss came on April 12, 2019, when the Cyclones nearly upset No. 6 Texas but came up just short, losing 4-3. The 17-match streak is the longest in school history.
