AMES, Iowa – Iowa State catcher Mikayla Ramos has been named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team, the league office announced Thursday.
The honorees were selected by a vote of the league's head coaches. Players were picked regardless of position and coaches could not vote for their own student-athletes.
Ramos, a 2021 NFCA All-Midwest Region First Team and All-Big 12 Second Team selection, pieced together a terrific year for the Cyclones last season. The Riverside, Calif. native set a new single-season school record with 57 RBIs and hit .365 with 65 hits, 39 runs, 15 doubles and 13 home runs.
The senior righty's 13 home runs are the fifth-most in a single season in Iowa State history. Ramos started all 57 games for the Cyclones in 2021 and drew a team-high 29 walks, tied for second-most in a single season in ISU history.
Ramos and the Cyclones open the 2022 campaign Feb. 11 against Omaha at the Doc Halverson UNI Dome Tournament hosted by Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
