STILLWATER, Oklahoma - Sophomore Ange Oby Kajuru won her two Saturday matches in singles play to advance to the quarterfinals at the ITA Regionals.Â
Kajuru would go 2-0 on the day, first defeating Arkansas' Gracie O'Donnell 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the round of 16. The Tokyo, Japan native went head to head with Tamari Gagoshidze from Kansas advancing to the quarterfinals with a final score 6-0, 6-1. Kajuru will go head-to-head with Sofia Rojas from Oklahoma State with a chance to move on to the semifinals.
Thasaporn Naklo took on in-state rival Marisa Schmidt from Iowa and did not give up a single game, defeating Schmidt 6-0, 6-0. In her quarterfinals match, Naklo took on Alana Wolfberg from Oklahoma State and lost 6-4, 7-5.
Anna Supapitch Kuearum battled her way to win against Emma Staker from Oklahoma. After two hard fought sets, Supapitch Kuearum came out on top with a final score of 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3). Supapitch Kuearum then went up against Raquel Gonzalez from Oklahoma State in her next match, however she would fall 6-4, 6-4.
In her first match, Miska Kadleckova was up 6-1 before her opponent, Rosanna Maffei from Kansas State, would retire due to injury. Kadleckova went head to head with Sofia Rojas from Oklahoma State University in her next match and fell 6-4, 6-3.
Chie Kezuka did not have the same luck as her teammates in her only singles match of the day. Julia Garcia Ruiz from Oklahoma would defeat Kezuka with a final score of 6-3, 7-6 (6).
Senior Christin Hsieh would build off momentum created yesterday in her consolation matches. In her first match, Hsieh advanced after her opponent, Lily Hutchings from Wichita State, retired due to injury. Hsieh would then defeat Tulsa's Lily Hutchings 0-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5).
Sofia Cabezas was defeated by in-state rival Samantha Mannix from Iowa in the consolation bracket with a final score of 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles action, familiar faces competed on the same court with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. Kajuru and Kezuka would defeat their teammates, Kadleckova and Suapitch Kuearum, in the round of 16, 8-4.
Cabezas and Naklo fought hard but eventually fell to Lingwei Kong and Natsumi Kurahashi from Wichita State with a final score of 8-7 (6).
