AMES, Iowa – Iowa State women's basketball assistant coach Latoja Schaben has been named one of 2023's 12 honorees on the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics 2023 Women Impacting ISU calendar.
"This is a great and well-deserved honor for Coach Schaben," head coach Bill Fennelly said. "For over two decades, she has dedicated her life to not just our program, but many areas where she can help all students and staff at Iowa State. She has embraced and lived the 'Iowa State Way', and she will continue to make a positive impact on campus."
Schaben, who is in her 26th season as a member of Fennelly's staff at Iowa State, has been an integral part of not just the Iowa State women's basketball program's culture, but across the entire Athletics Department. She has been a key contributor to the Iowa State Athletics Department's Cultural Humility Committee, which was established in 2021.
"This is a great honor for Latoja, she has infections energy and is a great ambassador for our program and university," associate head coach Jodi Steyer, who was one of the nominators for Schaben, said. "She is there for our student-athletes daily and has played a big role in the Cultural Humility Committee within the department. It is a blessing to watch her grow from a talented basketball player we coached at Toledo to the influential role model and woman she is today."
Iowa State Athletics has been featured throughout the years on the Catt Center's Women Impacting ISU calendar, which was established in 2007. Among the past Athletics honorees have been administrators Elaine Hieber (2008) and Dr. Calli Sanders (2007) and student-athletes Alex Gustafson (swimming and diving, 2014), Christina Hillman (track and field, 2016), Lisa Koll (cross country/track and field, 2010) and Lyndsey (Medders) Fennelly (women's' basketball, 2007).
