AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's Ashley Joens completed the clean sweep of preseason National Player of the Year Watch Lists on Wednesday when the Cyclone star was named to the "Wade Watch" for the 2023 Wade Trophy, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced.
Joens, an AP Preseason All-American and the 2022-23 Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, had already been named to the Preseason Watch Lists for the Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award.
Through seven games for the No. 8 Cyclones, Joens leads the Cyclones with 19.9 points per game, while also grabbing a team-best 9.3 rebounds per contest. She leads the Cyclones with 21 3-pointers and has been near-automatic from the free throw line, hitting 30-of-33 (90.9 percent) of her attempts this season.
The two-time Cheryl Miller Award winner for the nation's top small forward, Joens is ISU's all-time leading scorer with 2,508 career points to her name. She has already taken down the school's field goals record this season (now at 815) and is nearing in on school records for 3-pointers (276, school record is 287) and rebounds (1,146, record is 1,209).
Joens and the Cyclones return to the court next Wednesday against No. 10 Iowa in Iowa City. Tip at Carver-Hawkeye Arena will be at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
