Hayes, Women's 4x4 Win at Iowa State Classic

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Classic closed out on Saturday with another strong collection of performances from the Cardinal and Gold. ISU picked up a pair of event wins on the day at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center.

In the men's 800-meter run, Frank Hayes put up a new 2022 best for the Cyclones with his victory in 1:48.28. Hayes' effort moved him up to No. 5 in ISU indoor 800 history and (at the time of publication) No. 9 in NCAA Division I on the season. Jason Gomez broke away from his struggles during the season to take fourth overall in 1:48.52, an effort that is good for T-17 nationally this season (at the time of publication).

The Iowa State women closed out Saturday with a victory in the 4x400-meter relay, posting one of the best times in program history in the process. The quartet of Zakiyah Amos, Kaylyn Hall, Katarina Vlahovic and Bria Barnes finished with the win in 3:40.09, the No. 4 women's indoor 4x4 in program history. The mark is also the Cyclones' best in the event since the 2014 indoor campaign.

A day after going 1-2 in the women's 60-meter hurdles, Vlahovic and Hall were strong again on Saturday, this time in the 60-meter dash. Vlahovic took first in prelims in a personal best 7.56, with Hall taking third in 7.65, also a PR. Vlahovic moved to No. 5 in ISU history for the event with her run, while Hall is now No. 10 for the event.
