URBANDALE, Iowa – Iowa State (5-0) cruised to a 7-0 win against Drake (4-3) Sunday afternoon at Life Time Fitness, running its home winning streak to 21 consecutive matches and remaining undefeated this season.
The Cyclones had to battle to earn the doubles point as Drake pushed No. 1 and No. 2 to the limit. Ange Oby Kajuru and Chie Kezuka improved to 3-0 this spring with a 6-2 win over Mille Haagensen and Darinka Stepan.
With the No. 2 Cyclone pair in a tiebreak, Thasaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh rallied back to beat Liza Petushkova and Daria Walczak, 7-5. The Cyclones' top pair moved to 4-0 this spring with the victory.
Kezuka dominated her opponent at No. 5 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 against Stepan, to put the Cyclones up 2-0. Shortly after that, Miska Kadleckova disposed of Walczak, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
The Cyclones clinched the match with Sofia Cabezas beating Rebecca Ehn, 6-1, 6-2.
No. 33 Naklo made a thrilling comeback at No. 1 singles to earn the win. She dropped the first set 6-4, but rallied to capture the next two, 7-6 (6), 1-0 (5), as Iowa State earned the sweep in the match.
The Cyclones return to action Friday at Columbia at Noon (CT).
