HARRISON, N.Y. – The 45th-ranked Iowa State tennis team defeated No. 46 Columbia, 4-1, Friday afternoon at Life Time Fitness Westchester to remain undefeated this season. The Cyclones moved to 6-0 this season, while Columbia falls to 8-3.
"We showed incredible fight on the road today," head coach Boomer Saia said. "Each player gave themselves a chance to win which is what we preach each time out. I couldn't be more proud of how we responded to adversity. We need to bring the same kind of effort tomorrow."
The Cyclones cruised to the doubles win with 6-1 victories at the No. 2 and No.3 slots. The Cyclones have now clinched the doubles point in all six matches this season.
Ange Oby Kajuru and Chie Kezuka beat Columbia's Shivani Amineni and Winta Tewolde before the No. 37 doubles pairing of Miska Kadleckova and Sofia Cabezas took care of Clarine Lerby and Sophia Strugnell.
In singles action, Kadleckova made quick work of Jennifer Kerr with a 6-2, 6-2 win to put ISU up 2-0.
Thasaporn Naklo, the No. 51 player in the nation, earned a ranked win with a 6-3, 6-1 win against No. 90 Akanksha Bahn as ISU went up 3-0.
