HARRISON, New York – No. 45 Iowa State picked up its second ranked win of the weekend, beating No. 65 Washington State, 4-0, Saturday at Life Time Fitness Westchester. The victory extends the Cyclones' winning streak to start the season and moves them to 7-0, while the Cougars fall to 4-5.
"We responded very well in singles after playing a tentative doubles point," said head coach Boomer Saia. "Our group set the tone early and were able to play some really good tennis down the stretch today."
Doubles play was hotly contested. Washington State won 6-1 at court No. 1, but Iowa State returned the favor winning 6-1 at court No. 2, putting the pressure on Chie Kezuka and Ange Oby Kajuru. The No. 3 pairing responded by beating the Cougar team of Savanna Ly-Nguyen and Elyse Tse in a nail biter, 7-6 (7).
Miska Kadleckova got things started in singles action, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Washington State's Maxine Murphy at court three. Sofia Cabezas then gave the Cyclones a commanding 3-0 lead with her 6-2, 6-3 win.
Anna Supapitch Kuearum's 7-5, 6-2 win over Elyse Tse at court four completed the sweep for the Cyclones.
"It was a great weekend for us, we need to be ready for another tough road trip next weekend!" said Saia.
Iowa State is back on the road in Richmond, Virginia, for a pair of matches against VCU and William & Mary next weekend.
