THE SERIES
Iowa State and VCU will play for the second time in series history on Friday. In 2010, the Cyclones traveled to Richmond but could not overcome the Rams, losing 6-1 on the road.
William & Mary and Iowa State will also be playing their second match all-time. The Cyclones won the first match in 2020, a 5-2 victory at Life Time Fitness in Urbandale. Thasaporn Naklo, Christin Hsieh, and Chie Kezuka all earned singles victories in the win.
LAST TIME OUT
Iowa State was on the road in New York last weekend, where it defeated two top-65 opponents. On Friday, the Cyclones faced No. 46 Columbia. Iowa State won the match, 4-1, taking the doubles point before adding singles victories at courts one, three and five. Two days later, the Cyclones swept their fifth opponent of the season, No. 65 Washington State.
CLIMBING IN THE POLLS
Thanks to its wins last week, ISU has earned a No. 26 ranking in this week's ITA rankings, the highest ranking in school history.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Sophomores Miska Kadleckova and Sofia Cabezas have been rolling of late. In doubles, Kadleckova and Cabezas are ranked No. 37 in the country, holding a 14-3 record together this season. They're currently riding a five-match winning streak and have won 12 of their last 13.
CYCLONE TENNIS QUICK HIT
Although Iowa State is only seven matches into dual play, they already have the most sweeps (five) in a season since 2016-17 when the Cyclones had eight to end the year.
