Iowa State Mourns Loss Of Friend, Colleague Janet Lovell
03.16.2022 | Athletics
AMES, Iowa – A dear friend, colleague and staffer of Iowa State Athletics, Janet Lovell, passed away yesterday. She was 69 years old.
For 19 years, Lovell was a stabilizing force within the Iowa State Athletics Department before announcing her retirement in 2018. From 2003 to 2018, Lovell was an Administrative Assistant for the Director of Athletics, allowing her to interact with countless administrators, support staff, coaches and student-athletes, all with a caring, friendly manner and a smiling face.
A graduate of Northeast Hamilton High School in 1971, Lovell spent many years working for the South Hamilton school district before deciding to take a job at Iowa State University in 1996.
The chance to work at Iowa State was something that always excited her. She spent three years on campus before switching to athletics in 1999. She was the Office Coordinator for Olympic Sports from 1999-2003 before taking over Administrative Assistant duties.
Lovell witnessed the athletics department landscape change dramatically while working with current Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard, who arrived at Iowa State in 2005.
She will be missed.
Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Saturday (March 19) at 2 p.m., at the Elim Lutheran Church in Randall, Iowa.
