AMES, Iowa – Iowa State opens the outdoor track and field season this weekend, with the squad splitting up for a pair of meets beginning on Thursday. A group of women's middle distance and distance and men's middle distance members will take part in the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State, while ISU's sprinters, hurdlers and throwers head to Texas State for the Bobcat Invitational.
Live streaming of events at the Raleigh Relays will come via ACC Network Extra, which is available to ACC Network subscribers via WatchESPN. There will be no live streaming of the Bobcat Invitational. Live results for the Raleigh Relays will be provided by FlashResults, here, while a live results link to the Bobcat Invitational will be posted to the cyclones.com schedule when available.
The Raleigh Relays will be a big group of the Iowa State women's distance squad opening their season in some premier events. Among the notable entries include 2021 Big 12 Outdoors bronze medalist Janette Scharft in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 2021 Mid-American Conference Outdoor 5,000m champion Ashley Tutt and Dana Feyen in the 10,000 meters coming off a fourth-place effort at the 20212 Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
In Texas, Iowa State's throwers get to take on some new events, with the discus and hammer throw both on the agenda this week. Emily March took down ISU's school record in the women's discus in 2021, while Kevin Sakson was the Big 12 silver medalist in the discus on the men's side, with both entered this weekend. Antonella Creazzola has actually gotten her hands on the hammer throw more recently than most, having represented her native Venezuela at the Pan American Junior Games in the fall, and is entered this weekend.
Iowa State's women's hurdlers had a fantastic indoor season and will look to continue that into the outdoor campaign. Katarina Vlahovic was a Big 12 indoor bronze medalist and took down ISU's indoor 60-meter hurdles record and will be entered in the 100-meter hurdles this weekend, along with the 200-meter dash.
