AMES, Iowa. – The honors keep rolling in for No. 24. Ashley Joens was named a semifinalist for the 2022 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy National Player of the Year on Wednesday. Joens' appearance is the first time she has been named a semifinalist in her storied Iowa State career.
Joens is widely regarded as one of the top players nationally and recently earned a spot on the Wooden Award National Ballot and the Cheryl Miller Award Top 5, an honor she won last season.
Joens has had another standout campaign, and leads the 10th-ranked Cyclones with 20.0 points per game and 9.2 boards per game. Joens has elevated her game this season, shooting a career-best 37.2 percent from 3point range and making a career-best 77 triples this season. Additionally, Joens has evolved as a facilitator, averaging her best mark at 2.2 dimes per game.
Joens also cemented herself as the most prolific scorer in Iowa State history with 2,261 career points and counting, holding Iowa State's top mark in the record book. She also ranks fourth in school history with 1,025 career rebounds.
She has led Iowa State to one of its best seasons in program history. The Cyclones set program records in regular season wins (25) and conference wins (14). The Cyclones were ranked sixth in the latest NCAA reveal and earned the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 Championship.
