AMES, Iowa - The No. 30 Iowa State tennis team is set to close out the regular season Sunday with a match against Big 12 foe West Virginia. A win would give the Cyclones four conference victories on the season, which would match last season's school-record total.
THE SCHEDULE
Sunday, Apr. 17 - 1:00 p.m.
West Virginia (7-15, 0-8 Big 12) vs. No. 30 Iowa State (14-5, 3-5 Big 12)
Ames Fitness Center - 3600Â University Blvd., Ames, IA
THE SERIES
Iowa State and West Virginia will be playing for the 10th time in series history on Sunday. The Cyclones have been dominant over the Mountaineers, winning eight of nine all-time matches. The two teams last faced off in 2020, when Iowa State beat West Virginia, 5-2, in Morgantown.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cyclones fell at home against two top-15 opponents, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, in last weekend's action. On Friday, Iowa State hung tough with the No. 2-ranked Sooners but eventually lost, 5-2, at Ames Racquet & Fitness.
On Sunday, the Cyclones were outdoors at the Ames High School tennis courts playing No. 12 Oklahoma State, where they nearly pulled off the highest-ranked win in program history but fell just short, falling, 4-3, to the Cowgirls.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Miska Kadleckova has backed up her stellar performance as a freshman with an incredible sophomore year. She's already matched her win total in singles from last season (16) and will have a chance to add to it this weekend. In doubles play, Kadleckova surpassed her first-year win total (13) earlier this season and now stands at 20 victories, good for third-most on the team.
CYCLONE TENNIS QUICK HIT
On Sunday, Chie Kezuka will have the opportunity to win her eighth conference singles match of the season, which would set a new program record. Sofia Cabezas also has the chance to move into Iowa State's top-5 all-time for wins at No. 6 singles with a victory this weekend.
