Spelhaug Tabbed Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

AMES, Iowa – Ellie Spelhaug has been named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. This marks the second weekly honor Spelhaug has received from the conference in her career and the first this season.

Spelhaug was instrumental in a 3-1 week for the Cyclones which included a rivalry win over Iowa and a series victory at Baylor. The junior posted a 1.66 ERA across 12.2 innings and picked up two wins in her four appearances.

To start the week, Spelhaug logged 5.2 innings of work against the Hawkeyes while striking out three in a 5-4 ISU victory. The Bettendorf, Iowa native closed the week by allowing one run in seven innings at Baylor, including back-to-back outings in which she allowed only one hit.

The Cyclone defense behind her was crucial to her success as she induced 23 groundouts and 10 flyouts on the week.

Spelhaug and the Cyclones are back in action Wednesday at Drake. Frist pitch in ISU's final midweek contest of the season is set for 7 p.m.
