AMES, Iowa – Iowa State sophomore Thasaporn Naklo became the first Iowa State women's tennis player to receive an individual bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championship.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 20-22.
Naklo, who is currently ranked No. 59 in the ITA rankings, earned one of 49 at-large spots in the singles field, which features 64 of the nation's top players.
Naklo, who is 10-8 in singles play during the dual season, owns seven wins against nationally-ranked opponents during the 2021-22 campaign. She is 22-11 overall during the 2021-22 season.
In the fall, Naklo became the first Cyclone individual to earn a spot at the ITA Fall National Championships after winning the ITA Central Region title. She also advanced in doubles play alongside teammate Christin Hsieh.
Naklo is one of nine Big 12 players selected to the singles tournament.
The bracket for the tournament will be announced at a later date.
Iowa State (16-6) earned it second berth to the NCAA Tournament as a team yesterday and will face South Carolina on Saturday at 9 a.m. in Cary, North Carolina.
