AMES, Iowa - The 2021-22 Iowa State tennis team continued to cement the program as one of the nation's elite as it finished the season 16-7 overall and earned the school's second NCAA Tournament appearance. Head coach Boomer Saia's program earned a number of historic wins, including eight against ranked foes. ISU beat Iowa for the second-straight outing, winning back-to-back matches against the Hawkeyes for the first time since 1976 and helping the Cyclones clinch the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series.
KEY STORYLINES
- Iowa State went 16-7 overall and finished 4-5 in Big 12 action, matching the school record for league wins ... the Cyclones finished tied for fifth in the Big 12 and beat West Virginia as the seven seed at the Big 12 Championships ... it was just the second time ISU won a match at the tournament.
- The Cyclones fell to No. 28 South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Championships in Cary, North Carolina.
- ISU sophomore Thasaporn Naklo made history by becoming the first Cyclone individual to be selected for the NCAA Singles Championship ... Naklo defeated then-No. 72 Elaine Chervinsky (Virginia), 6-4, 6-2, in the first round ... in the second round, she held a substantial lead before severe cramping hindered her movement and she dropped a three-set match to No. 48 Abigail Renchili (NC State).
- ISU finished the season with its second-straight top-35 finish nationally, ending this season at No. 35 in the ITA Rankings by Tennis-Point.
- Individually, Naklo completed the season as the highest-ranked individual in school history at No. 55 ... freshman Ange Oby Kajuru was No. 107 in the final rankings and the doubles duo of Sofia Cabezas and Miska Kadleckova were ranked No. 85 in doubles.
- Naklo was also the first Cyclone to reach the ITA National Fall Championships in singles play ... she also reached in doubles with Christin Hsieh, while Cabezas and Kadleckova also advanced to the tournament.

WINNING WAYS
- Iowa State has secured the 11th winning season in 49 years of women's tennis at the school ... it is the third in four years under Saia.
- ISU's 16 wins were the most for the Cyclones since 1986-87 (18-17).
- ISU's 30 wins the last two seasons are the most in more than 30 years when the Cyclones won 32 total matches in 1985-86 and 1986-87.
- ISU's four Big 12 wins matched the school record set last season ... the Cyclones won three road Big 12 matches, also a school record ... ISU went 9-3 overall away from home.
BEST START
- Iowa State's 11-0 start was the best in school history.
KAJURU FIRST-YEAR SUCCESS
- Ange Oby Kajuru didn't play in the fall but the freshman found her footing immediately in the spring ... Kajuru went 14-7 in singles action while playing primarily at the No. 2 slot.
- In doubles action, she teamed with Chie Kezuka to go 17-3 at No. 3 doubles ... the two had a 7-1 record in Big 12 matches, matching the most league wins in ISU history.
- She's the first Cyclone to earn two Big 12 Player of the Week honors.
NAKLO AT NO. 1
- Naklo has piled up a 25-18 record in her career at No. 1 singles, including 10-7 this season ... she's 15 wins shy of Erin Karonis' record 40 wins at the top spot ... but Naklo owns the better winning percentage (.568) at No. 1 singles.
CLOSINGÂ INÂ ONÂ NO. 100
- Naklo's next victory will be her 100th overall ... she's compiled 53 singles wins and 46 doubles wins.
KADLECKOVA CRUISING
- Miska Kadleckova has won better than 75 percent of her matches as a Cyclone and owns a 21-6 record at No. 3 singles ... she's the only player in school history with at least 20 wins and a winning record at No. 3 singles.
THAT'SÂ A FIRST
- ISU beat Kansas in Lawrence and TCU in Fort Worth for the first time in school history.

KEZUKA BREAKS RECORD
- Kezuka set a school record with her eighth conference victory ... Kezuka finished 8-1 in Big 12 play, breaking the old mark of seven wins by Karonis in 2009.
- Kezuka went an astonishing 18-1 in singles dual action and was 26-4 overall ... her 26 single season wins were the third most in school history.
RIGHT AT HOME
- Iowa State saw a 23-match home win streak snapped earlier this season with a loss to Baylor ... the Cyclones are 28-7 at home under Saia.
