MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - Iowa State junior Miska Kadleckova defeated the nation's No. 8 player and rallied in her second round match to reach the quarterfinals of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Friday.
Kadleckova and Chie Kezuka got things off to a strong start with a doubles victory over Navy's pairing of Emilija Kojcic and Lara Kaiser. The pair proved to be no problem for the Iowa State duo as Kadleckova and Kezuka would advance with a score of 6-0. Doubles play resumes tomorrow as the two will face Julia Andreach from Notre Dame, who is paired with Teodora Ristic from Mercer.
Kadleckova went head to head with Duke's Georgia Drummy, who came into the tournament as the No. 8 ranked player in the country, in the first round. After going up 6-5 in the first set, Kadleckova would win the match as Drummy retired for medical reasons. In Kadleckova's second match, she outlasted Lara Schnieder from Indiana with scores of 4-6, 7-6(2), 1-0 (4).Â
In the quarterfinals, Kadleckova is set to face off against Madison Sieg from USC, who is ranked the No. 6 freshman in the nation.
Kezuka would prove to have tougher luck than her teammate, dropping her opening match against Navy's Stella Ribaudo with scores of 6-2. 4-6, 0-1 (7). In her second match, Kezuka was able to bounce back and quickly take care of Norah Balthazor from Butler with scores of 6-1, 6-2.Â
