AMES, Iowa – Ashley Joens has been recognized for her performances so far this season for No. 11 Iowa State by being named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 watch List, announced on Wednesday evening. The Wooden Award is presented to the national player of the year. Joens was on the Preseason Watch List and has advanced to the Midseason Top 25 for a third-straight season.
Joens leads ISU and ranks second in the Big 12 with her 19.5 points per game, scoring in double figures in 10 of the Cyclones' 11 contests this season, going over 20 points five times and putting away a season-best 33 against Columbia on Nov. 20. She has continued to be a strong rebounder for the Cyclones, grabbing 9.0 rebounds per contest and having five double-doubles to her name this season.
Joens is a regular on the Watch List and the women's basketball awards circuit. In addition to being named to the Wooden Award Preseason Watch List, she was also on the watch lists for the Wade Trophy and the Naismith Trophy, also given to the nation's top player. She was also the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team, a member of the Associated Press Preseason All-America Team and on the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List, the prize given to the nation's top small forward that she has won the past two seasons.
Joens and the Cyclones take on West Virginia tonight at 6:30 p.m. inside Hilton Coliseum.
