AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (14-6, 5-4 Big 12) swept Oklahoma (8-12, 1-9 Big 12) Saturday afternoon by set scores of 25-20, 25-22, 25-16. The Cyclones hit at a powerful .325 on the match, making for the seventh match of the season breaking .300 and the fourth conference match.
ISU also served strong, totaling 11 aces through the three sets. It is the 20th match under Christy Johnson-Lynch to tally 10 or more and the second this season. Brooke Stonestreet and Gonzalez led with three each.
Gonzalez led the Cyclones with 11 kills to pass 200 on the season, now totaling 204. It is the freshman's 11th-double figure kill match of the season. Alexis Engelbrecht dialed in the next-highest total with an errorless seven on just 10 attempts. Engelbrecht also led the block with one solo and three assisted for four total.
SET ONE
ISU was able to break away midway through the opening frame, building a lead out to five (15-10) and never looking back. Six different Cyclones recorded a kill, including three each by the trio of Jordan Hopp, Maya Duckworth and Gonzalez. As a team, the Cyclones hit at .346 and featured four aces in the set alone.
SET TWO
Oklahoma kept up with the Cyclones as the score remained within two up until 18-16 with the Cyclones ahead. Gonzalez then sparked a scoring run with a kill as ISU took the next three. Another Gonzalez kill would end the set, her fifth of the set on just seven swings, with the Cyclones holding the advantage of 25-22 to go ahead in the match 2-0. ISU hit at an efficiency of .375 in the second with just one attack error.
SET THREE
ISU went out to a 10-5 lead as the duo of Engelbrecht and Lilly Wachholz followed to team up for back-to-back blocks to continue stretching the lead (17-8). The match would end on another block, this time by Engelbrecht and Gonzalez to seal it 25-16. The Cyclones never gave up control in the final frame, holding Oklahoma to a .043 hitting percentage and totaling five aces.
