AMES, Iowa – Iowa State diver Lauren Kimball has been named the Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week after an impressive weekend against South Dakota and South Dakota State.
Friday against South Dakota, Kimball posted a 274.73 score, the second best of her Iowa State career, on the 1-meter diving board to finish first in the event. Her effort secured the first NCAA zone diving cut of the season for the Cyclone diving team. Kimball followed up that performance with a third-place finish on the 3-meter board to secure 12 crucial team points for ISU in a tight 151.5-148.5 win over the Coyotes.
Kimball followed up a strong Friday night with an even stronger performance on the 3-meter board Saturday against South Dakota State. She scored a 303.65 score on the 3-meter board, over 40 points higher than the second-place finisher. The score was a personal best on the 3-meter board for Kimball, a score that secured her a second NCAA zone diving cut in as many days.
Friday and Saturday marked Kimball's best performances to date since an injury kept her out for most of the 2022-23 season.
Next up, the Iowa State swim & dive team will travel to Iowa City for the Hawkeye Invite Nov. 30 through Dec. 2.
About the Cyclone Club
The Cyclone Club spearheads the fundraising efforts for the Iowa State Athletic department and gifts of all sizes directly impact the lives of over 450 student-athletes at Iowa State. Annual Cyclone Club gifts provide ISU student-athletes the opportunity to compete in their sport at the highest level, while preparing them to utilize their Iowa State degree once their athletic careers have concluded. Iowa State Athletics does not receive any State or University funding to operate, thereby making it one of the nation's only financially self-sufficient athletic programs.
